I plan to continue my involvement in the journal and pursue further leadership opportunities within it.Īcademic Enrichment: My choice of coursework represented by my Honors Contract is a testament to the passions that I have cultivated throughout my academic journey. I have considered opportunities to do an undergraduate research thesis, however, I feel as though adding another project may detract from my current involvement. Furthermore, I must analyze whether a paper has a valid claim and if the researcher is able to explain and defend it professionally and cohesively. While reviewing at least 2 articles per week, I must be critical in my assessment of what I believe to be well-sourced, well-supported, and accurate research. In addition, I am responsible for formatting the journal using Adobe InDesign software. Original Inquiry: As Layout Editor of the Journal of Politics and International Affairs, I have gained experience in editing and reviewing undergraduate research pertinent to international politics.
I hope to continue this level of involvement and add to these experiences by further coursework and a study abroad experience in Central or South America. Furthermore, as Layout Editor to the Journal of Politics and International Affairs, I have gained experience in editing and reviewing undergraduate research pertinent to international politics. In addition, I have begun to pursue my goal of becoming a Peace Corps volunteer by collaborating with the campus recruiter and educating groups of students on opportunities as a Peace Corps Campus Ambassador. My studies in Global Public Health have peaked my interest into how I can apply public policy and political theory to assess public health disparities among diverse communities in the United States and abroad. Minoring in Spanish has allowed me to gain a greater appreciation for the language and cultures of Latin America, while an international service trip to Guatemala with Buck-I-SERV helped me to increase my fluency and understanding daily life. With each political science, historical study, and international studies course I enroll in, I accumulate a greater knowledge of the interconnections of political ideals, social justice issues, and global citizenship.
Global Awareness: By becoming an International Studies student, I was eager to begin coursework in peace studies, political history, and international theory.
